Affogato is simply a delicious coffee with vanilla ice cream. This recipe was born in Milan and means “drowned”. Vanilla ice cream is literally drowned in coffee, transforming it into a very special drink or dessert.

It can be combined with chocolate chips, cinnamon or if you want to give it a chic touch, add amaretto, your mouth is watering right?

For the vanilla ice cream

100ml milk

100ml of water

500ml cream 35% fat

200g sugar

150g milk powder

1 vanilla pod

freshly brewed coffee

Cinnamon powder (optional)

Amaretto (optional)


  1. Cut the vanilla pod in half with a pick, scrape until all the seeds are removed.
  2. We put a saucepan with the milk and vanilla seeds on the fire, heat it for a few minutes, remove it from the heat and let it infuse.
  3. In a pan we prepare a syrup, add the sugar and water and heat over high heat until all the sugar is dissolved and wait a few minutes for it to have a thicker consistency. We place in a bowl and reserve.
  4. We mix the tempered syrup, the infused milk, the powdered milk and beat until integrated.
  5. We whip the cream and add to the previous mixture with enveloping movements.
  6. We place in a container, cover and put in the freezer. Minimum 12 hours.
  7. We prepare the coffee in our Induction Noir coffee maker. Let it cool briefly so that the ice cream does not melt so quickly.
  8. In a cup we put a scoop of our homemade vanilla ice cream, cover with coffee, a splash of amaretto and decorate with cinnamon powder or chocolate chips.
