Torrijas are a traditional dessert typical of the Holy Week season. Of all the sweets we can make on these dates, torrijas are one of our favorites. They can be prepared in many ways depending on the place, with honey, with wine, with sugar. Whatever the option, this sweet is delicious and no one can resist it. The base is a simple slice of bread, egg and milk. In a few minutes you will have a finger-licking homemade sweet.
Ingredients:- 1 loaf of day-old bread
- 500ml milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Skin of a lemon
- 300g white sugar
- 4-5 teaspoons of cinnamon
- 1/2l extra virgin olive oil
-
We put the milk in our 16cm Chef saucepan , the cinnamon stick and the previously washed lemon peel. We put it over medium heat and heat until it almost starts to boil, but does not come close to it. We remove from the heat and let it cool, this way our milk will be perfectly flavored.
- We cut the bread into slices that are not too thin.
- In a large bowl, place the flavored milk once it has cooled.
- We prepare another dish with the beaten eggs.
- While the oil that we have put in our 28cm Xtrem frying pan is heating, we are bathing the slices of bread in the milk and drizzling in the beaten egg.
- When the oil is hot, fry the torrijas until golden.
- We remove it to a plate with kitchen paper to remove excess oil.
- We fill a plate with sugar and cinnamon powder and coat our torrijas, which should be well impregnated throughout.
- We serve once cold and enjoy them.
